Getting from Belize International Airport to Placencia: We recommend allowing 75 minutes between your incoming flight and your puddle jumper flight to Placencia. For airport tips and duty-free goodies, you can visit Arrival Duty Free in the baggage claim area.

Immigration and Customs: Have your passport and Arrival Form ready for immigration. For duty-free purchases upon arrival, you can visit Arrival Duty Free. Customs is straightforward; declare items if necessary. More details are available at Belize Customs.

      Low Season and Travel: The low season typically starts in June, with quieter times and occasional closures. Plan accordingly for weather and activities.

        Passports and Visas: US citizens and others listed on our website require a valid passport. Visas are not needed for stays under 30 days.

          Rainy Season and Weather: Belize enjoys a subtropical climate with average temperatures around 80°F year-round. The rainy season is from June to November, occasionally with hurricanes. The dry season is from November to May.

            Health Concerns: Zika, COVID, and Tropical Diseases: Please refer to CDC guidelines for updates. During high-risk times, use DEET. Sand fleas are present; Avon's Skin So Soft works wonders as a repellent. No vaccinations are required for entry.               Safety in Belize: Placencia is generally safe with minimal violent crime. Use common sense to guard against opportunistic theft.

                Drinking Water: Tap water is safe to drink, sourced from a deep artesian well in Big Creek. Bottled water is also available.

                  Electricity and Outlets: Electrical power is 110 volts/60 cycles, identical to the US. US-style plugs are standard.

                    WiFi and Connectivity: WiFi is available but may be intermittent during storms. Expect basic functionality for email and browsing.

                      Currency and Money: The local currency is the Belize Dollar (BZD); USD is widely accepted at a 2:1 rate. Credit cards are accepted; ATMs are available with nominal fees.

                        Time Zone: Belize operates on Central Standard Time year-round.

                          Transportation: Renting Cars or Golf Carts: Golf carts are available for rent locally. A car is unnecessary as everything is within walking distance.

                                Beaches and Sea Grass: Belize's barrier reef supports marine life; occasionally, sea grass may wash ashore, which is cleaned up daily.

                                  Local Stores and Prices: Nearby grocery stores and farmer's markets offer a variety of goods. Prices are comparable to those in the US.

                                      Taxis and Local Services: Taxis are readily available; contact numbers may change, so it’s advisable to check with local providers.

                                        Emergency Services: Placencia has medical services, with more advanced care available in Belize City. Police can be reached at 911 or 503.3142 in case of emergencies. 

                                          Church Services and Office Needs: Local churches offer services within walking distance. For office needs, Placencia Office Supply provides business services.

                                            Beach Etiquette and Local Culture: Please respect local customs and engage with vendors politely. Grilling is allowed, but bonfires are not permitted.
